Community Leadership Responsibilities

Community organizers are committed to bringing people together in the Seattle area to learn, share, and grow. They are dependable individuals with a passion for WordPress. Community organizers ensure that anyone who would like to host a sanctioned meetup or a special event is fully supported and does so in keeping with the Five Good Faith Rules.

Responsibilities

Admin/Management

  • Manage community’s assets:
    • Meetup.com
    • WPSeattle.org portal
    • MailChimp-powered mailing list
    • Slack channels
    • seattle.wordcamp.org
    • Gmail and PayPal accounts
    • PollDaddy (paid for to use with WordCamp but available for our use)
    • Projector (currently lives in the WP Seattle storage unit)
  • Respond to inquiries from people who would like to start new meetups and help them succeed in finding venues, speakers, and anything else they need
  • Develop an annual budget based on community needs and support of resources
  • Raise sponsorship money based on budget detailing how funds will be committed
  • Communicate with the WordPress Central Community Outreach team regarding the community’s needs and questions about compliance with guidelines/code of conduct
  • Liaise with WordCamp organizing team

Support/Training

  • Hold quarterly virtual or in-person meetings with Meetup Organizers
  • Empower meetup hosts to be successful in organizing their meetups
  • Develop leadership within the WP community
  • Work to ensure continuity of leadership and support for the annual WordCamp

Marketing

  • Reach out to community members on a regular basis to promote meetups, WordCamp, and opportunities to network with other WordPress users
  • Survey and gather feedback from community members to improve meetups and online resources offered to Seattle-area WordPress users
  • Build the MailChimp mailing list to promote the community’s resources
