Presentation

Vanessa Smith of Vanessa Smith Design spoke to the group about processes for business.

She uses Dubsado, which is SaaS business management platform, and allows users to automate their business processes.

Among other tasks, It allows the user to

  • Lead Capture
  • Invoicing
  • Accounting
  • Time tracking
  • Scheduler
  • Work flow
  • Very good helpful community
  • Integrates with Quickbooks Online

The invoicing ties everything together.  She is very happy with the product.  If you are interested, please contact her as she has an affiliate link for Dubsado.

Current price is $35/mo, $350/year  The price that you start at is the price it stays, even when they change their rates!

The first 3 clients you add are free, so you can try it out with the full package.  You like it, then you buy and add more clients!

The scheduler can be embedded in a website, or can be sent in a link.  It allows the use of multiple calendars.

Competitors are:
Honeybook – https://www.honeybook.com/
17 Hats – https://www.17hats.com/

Contracts

Good source for contracts without all of the legalese:
https://stuffandnonsense.co.uk/projects/contract-killer

Sub-contractors – things to look out for

  • they usually initiate a contract but if they don’t, you should do that
  • scope of work/payment
  • set expectations for both parties early on!

Image Processing – Photo Smushing

Sheila says she uses the WPHelp plugin (no longer being updated but still works perfectly fine) to provide each client the broad information needed in the Dashboard Help files created by the plugin. She’s reposted for us on her website. Then she’ll also do a custom help entry per client with the exact dimensions various images need on their site.

Need to consider both:

  • image dimension
  • image weight

It’s best to set dimensions in PhotoShop or similar tool, AND use an image optimizer to reduce the image weight.
